Northridge, CA October 3, 2017 – The Resistance – Northridge, Indivisible and Sister District CA 30 announced a fundraiser they are hosting for the upcoming elections in Virginia. Proceeds will be donated to Kathleen Murphy and Mike Mullin's re-election campaign. The event takes place this Saturday October 7th at 7:00 pm in Northridge. Virginia has a very important election this November and with the horror that took place in Charlottesville these elections are even more critical.

The Resistance Northridge, Indivisible has worked closely with Sister District CA30 as they want to effect change not only at the local level but across the country. Primary to the mission of the group is to support and work with activists across the nation to flip districts to blue.

All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates are up for election in 2017. Republicans hold 66 of the 100 seats. Every seat counts towards flipping the Virginia legislature blue. GOP leaders say many districts—including those won by Clinton—remain Republican strongholds for state elections. In 2015, only 21 Democrats ran against GOP lawmakers. This year, Democrats plan to challenge 45 GOP incumbents—including 17 lawmakers whose districts voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Why is this Race Important?

• Virginia is the only Republican-controlled state having elections this year.

• Smaller elections also allow relatively small organizations to make a big difference.

• Redistricting. State legislatures often control redistricting.

• Republicans now control both chambers in 33 states

• 25 Republican Trifectas control both chambers of state government and the governorship.

• States are Policy Laboratories.

• Constitutional Convention. If Republicans gain control of one more state legislature they would be able to call for a Constitutional Convention to amend our federal Constitution.
