“Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.”
~ Margaret Mead
What we do
Voter outreach and education.
Talking with voters about issues that matter most to them is everything. More importantly, it’s about listening. We meet people where are, not where we think they should be. Voting should be easily accessible to every citizen in America, easy to understand what the issues are and where candidates stand on those issues. Until that is done, we keep going.
Hold our reps accountable.
It’s our job as citizen to hold our representatives accountable. It’s also our job to thank them when they have the bravery to vote for progressive issues that put the people first and not corporations. This is how we move our country forward. We have never lived up to America’s promise but we can if we don’t stop. People power is everything.
Empower our community.
Never done anything ‘political’ before? Yeah, most of us either. You only need to be willing. We got involved after the 2016 election and haven’t stopped. We believe in empower others to drive the change they want to see in their communities. Once you understand your power, you will be unstoppable. Is it easy? Hell no! Is it worth it? Hell YES!
Promote progressive issues.
We believe that housing and healthcare are human rights. We are for a Green New Deal, Single Payer Healthcare, Racial Justice, Defunding the Police and investing in communities. We believe in a woman’s right to choose, cancellation of student debt, closing down Aliso Canyon, LGBTQIA+ rights, criminal justice reform. We believe that Black Lives Matter. We believe in taxing the top 1% to help strengthen our infrastructure, public schooling. We believe in universal basic income, public banking, social safety nets, a pathway to citizenship. We believe immigrants make our communities stronger and more robust. We support our teachers, unions, free college, gun violence prevention laws and more.
Fight structural racism.
Truly fighting structural racism you must be uncomfortable and come to terms with your part in supporting the oppression of brown and black people. When I say ‘you’ I’m speaking at all of us. It’s hard work, it’s uncomfortable, and it can absolutely be done. Racism isn’t about individuals and actions, it’s about a system. It’s a system of oppression that upholds the superiority of White people and the inferiority of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). It was created and upheld through policies, practices, and procedures to create inequities between racial groups. Being anti-racist is also a system. This would be a system where we create policies, practices, and procedures to promote racial equity.¹
Run for office.
We love promoting and helping elect progressive candidates. We’ve also thrown our own hats in the ring to run for positions like Neighborhood Councils, ADEM Delegates, City Council, and more. Remember, most of us had never done this before; if any of us can do it, so can you. Thinking about running for something? Here are a few organizations you may want to check out:
Mission Statement
We’re a volunteer group of grassroots progressives in Northridge, CA who are working together to drive political change starting at the local level. We stand for inclusivity, equity, freedom, and opportunity for everyone. We believe change starts municipally by building relationships with our local communities along with our elected officials, to help increase voter turnout in every election. We look for opportunities to drive change here and across the country and will work closely with grassroots organizers in each area to assist in their efforts for progressive change. Empowering each of our members to lead is crucial to the success of our impact.
