Northridge, CA October 1, 2018 – The Resistance Northridge- Indivisible announced today that they are endorsing Christy Smith to represent the 38th Assembly District that includes the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, and northern portions of the San Fernando Valley. This local Indivisible group represents over 200 Indivisible members. The groups support Smith for her stance on critical issues that affect the local communities that she serves. As a 36-year resident of Santa Clarita and a devoted public servant, Smith understands the unique issues facing the 38th Assembly District.
“We proudly endorse Christy Smith for Assembly district 38. Smith has been a proven leader in her community and champion for education statewide. Her advocacy work extends to include a broad array of public policy issues that we support. We believe that she will be a strong legislator in Sacramento working for the needs of the community,” stated The Resistance Northridge-Indivisible
“I am proud to be endorsed by the Resistance Northridge-Indivisible, said Christy Smith.” The Indivisible movement and supporting groups have been critical in voter registration, voter outreach, and speaking truth to power at this critical time for our state and country. I look forward to continuing to work with them as we head to Election Day.”
Christy Smith has identified top priorities for our community as jobs, education, public safety, women and families, the environment, and healthcare. Smith supports making investments in infrastructure, education, scientific research, and renewable energy to create sustainable jobs in our community. She has dedicated her career to improving schools and in the assembly, she will continue to champion for education. With the current environment, keeping
our children safe is a top priority to Christy Smith, and as such in the assembly, she will work to expand youth violence prevention and after-school programs that keep kids in school and out of trouble. Christy believes it is crucially imperative that we fight for women's equality and as such in the assembly she will work to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work. She will further push for affordable quality childcare and pre-school, and she supports paid family leave.
With the travesty of Aliso Canyon, the 38th district is home to grave environmental threats and challenges. Smith thinks that local, state and federal agencies have fallen short so it is time we take charge. She believes it is time to transition to a renewable energy economy and close the Aliso Canyon facility. Christy further believes that more must be done immediately to help Californians contend with the rising costs of healthcare and prescription drugs. California needs to work to control the increasing cost of healthcare, as well as prescription drugs which she sees as a drag on every other part of our economy.
The Resistance Northridge- Indivisible supports Christy Smith for Assembly and will be volunteering with her campaign efforts. Key actions will include canvassing, phone banking, postcard writing, and voter registration. Christy Smith looks forward to pushing the 38th district towards progress together.
