Greater Los Angeles, CA October 8, 2019- The Progressive Volunteer Network Santa Monica is sponsoring an impeachment rally this Sunday, October 13th, at the Wilshire Federal Building. This rally is one of scores of Move To Impeach actions organized across the nation by By The People and its partner organizations, Indivisible, MoveOn, and others. The L.A. Move To Impeach Rally is sponsored by Progressive Volunteer Network Santa Monica, Indivisible CA 33, Indivisible South Bay L.A., The Resistance Northridge Indivisible, Venice Resistance, and East Valley Indivisibles. The Executive Director of By the People, Alexandra Flores-Quilty went on national TV to announce this day of mass marches demanding Congress #ImpeachNow.

With recent revelations, including Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, public opinion is steadily moving more in favor of impeachment every day. The organizations assert that President Trump has consistently and flagrantly violated his oath of office, and they will take to the streets to protest as no one is above the law. The goal of the rally is to be a voice for democracy to pressure the members of Congress in no uncertain terms to do their jobs and support a vote on Trump’s crimes and impeach.

The rally aims to reach across the partisan divide as this is about standards, whether Democrat or Republican, that we value as a Nation. Driving their passion is safeguarding democracy at its core. The system of checks and balances has been called into question with the current administration and must be protected. This system upholds the foundation of our democracy shielding authoritarian rule.

The groups stated, “Trump has consistently abused presidential power for personal gain. He welcomed the help of a foreign country in the 2016 election, and he is trying to do it again in 2020. He obstructs congressional oversight, and he gaslights the country with lies and disinformation, much of which comes from America’s adversaries — countries that are trying to destroy America and the democracy we hold dear. Congress must do its duty and impeach, and the Senate must convict.”
